Whether you like history or not, you should know that fashion has been and continues to be a significant part of history. Even today, you can see the fashion trends and how they mimic the fashion trends of previous years. Think about flared pants with cropped tops paired with bright eye-shadow and glossy lips; this is what 90s fashion is all about. Today, it is gaining popularity once again.

However, today's fashion is all about being cheap and disposable. This change took place after the industrial revolution, but before that, the world witnessed some extraordinary designs, outrageous looks, and magical styles that had people wishing that they were born in the Victorian Era. This was the time when there were intricately crafted corsets, hand-woven and spun fabric with elaborate designs that wow-ed people then and even now. So, doesn't it make you wonder what makes the fashion trends from the Victorian era so memorable? Is it the fabric? Modesty?

The style or simply the fact that people tend to cherish what has passed? It doesn't matter what the answer is, Victorian-era fashion will always be remembered as a great time for fashion. In honor of Victorian-era fashion, here are some of the most over-the-top trends that you need to know about.

1. Gloves For Every Occasion

Whenever you see a celebrity on the red carpet rocking their outfit with some gloves, you instantly like their dress for some reason. This is because gloves elevate the outfit, and the people of the Victorian era had cracked this code, which is why they had gloves for every single occasion. People would also cover their hands to keep the skin protected and to reduce sun damage.

2. Fans For Flirtation

No, this is not about people fans but about the hand fans that you might have seen in television shows and movies set in the time of the Victorian era. Fans were quite popular at the time as they were used by unmarried women to engage in playful and flirtatious behavior while maintaining the strict social norms of that time.

Just by simply opening and closing the fan, the ladies would send coded messages to the person they intended the message for. One of the most common codes was bringing the handle of the fan to the lip, which would translate to an invite to be kissed.

3. Bustles For The Back

This trend proves that the world has always been obsessed with what the behind of a woman looks like. Even during the Victorian era, women would don metal cages that came with padded cushions. The idea behind these contraptions was to give an elevated, rounded, and full shape to the back of the dress, even providing support for when the skirts were elaborate and heavy.

Which over-the-top Victorian-era fashion trend did you like the most, and do you think they should make a comeback?
