Hotels instantly remind us of luxurious days, carefree travel, lavish restaurants, and opulent furnishings. However, this has changed for some of the hotels around the world as they were abandoned due to unfortunate events such as natural disasters, financial mishaps, war, and bad weather. The skeletal remains of these once-upon-a-time-luxury hotels can be witnessed worldwide, which serve as a reminder of their former splendor.
Here are some of the hotels from around the world which faced the same ill-fate.
1. Ryugyong Hotel, North Korea
The pyramid-shaped luxurious hotel was made in 1987 and was more thn 1000 feet in height. The hotel had 3000 rooms and five 360-degree spinning eateries. The construction was planned for completion in 1992 but even sveral years after that, it was not completed and thus, earned itself the nickname of the “Hotel of Doom.”
2. Haludovo Palace Hotel, Croatia
This hotel opened in 1971 and served as a vacation resort with a casino for the tourists. It was abandoned when the casino went bankrupt. After the 1991 conflict, tourists were not allowed to stay at the establishment and the only visitors that were received by the hotel were refugees from the Yugoslav Wars.
3. El Hotel Del Salto, Colombia
It was built in 1992 in San Antonio Del Tequendama and provided a view of the Tequendama Falls. It was operational for 60 years before shutting down because of pollution in the Bogota River. El Hotel Del Salto’s condition has deteriorated over the years and it is now said to be possessed, due to the fact that many people have committed suicide here.
4. Coco Palms Resort, Hawaii
The Coco Palms is now considered a deserted and scary hotel and nothing about its current structure reminds us of its former splendor. The resort was once full of visitors, including Hollywood celebs, and was even featured in the Elvis Presley movie “Blue Hawaii.” The resort was forced to shut down in 1992 after a cyclone hit the island and since then, no attempts have been made to bring the resort back to its full glory.
