Elon Musk is one of the champions for our planet’s environmental preservation and has been pretty outspoken in his opposition to the use of fossil fuels. So, in 2003, he started his own electric car production company. He aimed to change the way we view and consume energy in order to help save on greenhouse gas emissions and, by doing so, protect the environment.

For the common man, the first Tesla cars produced were not quite in the realm of affordability since they cost about $80k. Elon knew that for Tesla’s goals to be achieved, the price point for his Tesla car models would have to be brought down significantly.

Currently, the cheapest Tesla car is the Model 3, which goes for $31k, and each Tesla car is estimated to save 650 pounds of greenhouse gases. So far, some 90,000 Tesla cars have been sold in the USA, resulting in approximately 33 million pounds of greenhouse gas prevention.

Gigafactories

His plans for Tesla Gigafactories are another one of Elon Musk’s attempts at sustainable energy. The idea is for the factories to be self-sufficient, utilizing solar and wind energy to generate power. The first Gigafactory is located in the desert, just outside Reno, Nevada. It occupies 1.9 million square feet of desert space and helps in mass-producing battery packs and, in turn, Tesla cars.

When we talk about commercial transportation, the conversation is inevitably confined to the realm of our planet. However, being the trailblazer that he is, Elon Musk decided to change that when he created SpaceX in 2002. The space exploration company was eventually able to launch the Falcon 1 rocket into orbit during its fourth attempt, taking mankind one step closer to interplanetary travel.

This garnered SpaceX a lot of financial and political support and the company has since also become the first private company to transport cargo from space to Earth. With Elon’s continued efforts, the human race is finally on the cusp of becoming a multi-planetary species.
